On March 21, 2021, MTO Shahmaghsoudi® Los Angeles celebrated the International Day of Nowruz by donating some 17,000 of items of PPEs, school supplies, non-perishable food, hygiene kits and care packages. These all went to three hospitals, including Cedars-Sinai Tarzana, Pacifica Hospital of the Valley and Mission Community Hospital, and to four charities, which included LA Family Housing, Haven Hills, Child Development Institute and the Motion Picture Television Fund. In addition, as part of the new M.T.O. Environment Initiative, California native seeds, soil and pots were donated to Berkeley Hall School.
M.T.O. hosted the event to celebrate the Persian New Year with a lovely presentation of the Haftsin, the arrangement of 7 symbolic objects together whose names commence with S, that symbolize rebirth and renewal, health, love, patience, beauty, the sweetness and the spice of life.
In partnerships with LA Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, United States Senator Alex Padilla, and Bob Beitcher, President of MPTF, who is receiving the Motion Picture Academy’s Special Award at the Oscars on April 25th, the event was part of the continued COVID-19 Relief Efforts, along with the new M.T.O. Sustainability Initiative. A “heroes” luncheon was provided for the guests, including the brave men and women of the LAPD and LAFD. Local news media including NBC4, ABC7 and KTLA5 covered the event and festivities.
The opening ceremony started with Zendeh Delan music playing with live daf, followed by an M.T.O. Representative with the opening speech. Then Councilmember Blumenfield awarded M.T.O. with yet another Certificate of Commendation from the City of Los Angeles. Following that was a video message by U.S. Senator of California, Alex Padilla, who shared many kind words and personally thanked M.T.O. as well. Bob Beitcher from the MPTF spoke at the podium and was really grateful for the partnership we have. There was a presentation of one of Professor Nader Angha’s teachings in seven languages. M.T.O. presented special handmade gifts with traditional Iranian mirror work, thanking the guests. There was a photo opportunity before we all worked together to load the food and supplies into the vehicles and helped in making the deliveries throughout the city.
